The Blaine County School District needs our help to support our public schools. Our students deserve a better education than the state of Idaho is willing to pay for. The proposed supplemental levy will provide funding for the salaries and benefits of staff members running programs for which the state of Idaho provides little to no funding.
Flat local revenues and a decline in state funding are contributing to a projected $2 million shortfall for the 2024-2025 school year. The school board is striving to continue paying staff members what it costs to live in our community, while at the same time supporting important programs that receive little to no state or federal funding.
The board is accessing every lever it has to address the challenge of long-term financial sustainability, including reducing expenses, strategically eliminating positions, increasing efficiencies, and running levies. It will take a combination of these tools to stabilize our budget.
As proposed, the supplemental levy will cost Blaine County property owners $8.53 per $100,000 of assessed property value annually for the next two years.
